ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE PAN-AFRICA FARMERS FORUM GENERAL ASSEMBLY, ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA
The Regional Farmers Networks of Africa together have gone through a lengthy process in the last 6 years focusing on agriculture and producer organizations. As an outcome of the process, the Networks put together two declarations i.e. February 2004 – the Pretoria declaration and on 21st May 2009 the Addis Ababa Pan-Africa Farmers Forum declaration.

IFAD third global meeting of the Farmers' Forum and Governing Council 15th -18 Feb 2010

The EAFF President and the EAFF CEO participated in the third global meeting of the Farmers' Forum that took place on 15 and 16 February 2010 in conjunction with the 33rd session of IFAD’s Governing Council that took place on 17 – 18 February 2010 at IFAD’s Headquarters in Rome, Italy. The Forum brought together more than 70 farmers' leaders from around the world, representing millions of smallholders and rural producers from all over the world who will interact with IFAD staff and selected partners. The Forum was opened by the President of IFAD, Kanayo Nwanze.

Global Conference on Agricultural Research for Development (GCARD) March 2010

The EAFF CEO attended the Global Conference on Agricultural Research for Development (GCARD 2010) which was held from 28 to 31 March 2010 in Montpellier, France.
The first part was a summit meeting of invited senior policy makers from governments, international agencies and key stakeholder organisations. These examined the need and scale of investment in agricultural research and associated institutions required to increase the impact of new knowledge among the poor.
The second part, the main session, involved a cross-section of stakeholders from all sectors involved in agricultural research for development. These included farmers, consumers, civil society organisations, service providers, input suppliers and market representatives. Those directly concerned with research, and subsequent agricultural inputs in the public, private and international sectors, and the funding bodies that support research and advisory processes, also took part in the main session.
