EAFF President Mrs. Elizabeth Nsimadala accompanied by Stephen Muchiri( CEO), Norbert Tuyishime (Programs), and our members in Tanzania: Tanzania Federation of Cooperatives(TFC) represented by Mrs. Slyvia Thomas, Vice President, and Mr. Alex Ndikile CEO; Cooperatives Union of Zanzibar( CUZA) represented by Mr. Souleiman Mbarouk; Agricultural Council of Tanzania(ACT); and MVIWATA represented by Mr. Stephen Ruvuga( CEO) and Mr. Remy Urio(program officer) paid a courtesy call to Honourable Hussein Mohammed Bashe, Minister of Agriculture in the United Republic of Tanzania to discuss the EAC Cooperative Societies Act of 2015 that is still awaiting ascent by EAC Heads of States.
EAFF President informed the Hon. Minister on the justification of the Bill and the journey taken from the introduction of the Bill to the EALA until it was passed by the same House as an EAC Cooperatives Societies Act of EALA 2015.
The President requested the Hon. Minister the support to push the Act in the United Republic of Tanzania where it is currently so that Her Excellency can ascent to it before it is passed to other Heads of State.
The fruitful meeting ended with the commitment from Hon. Minister to support the initiative and see the Act signed as soon as possible. The delegation agreed on a number of follow-up steps to be jointly implemented by relevant parties of the delegation.
