The collective statement includes key messages from farmer organisations, as well as contributions from the EAFF Secretariat in support of their members.

This call-for-action includes six key messages:

African climate processes, actors and institutions:

What this means for farmers?

The role of farmer organizations in implementing climate action should be enhanced by ensuring more effective farmer participation in the implementation of national climate change policies and strategies, as well as in important meetings and global climate change negotiations. This will in turn strengthen the farmers constituency and the voice of local land users at the UNFCCC, prioritising farmer access to information and supporting the building of resilience measures throughout farming landscapes. A stronger and more cohesive voice is also likely to attract additional financing, technical and capacity support to farmers.

The Call to Action

Despite the unique national priorities and processes within each member country, this call serves as a common request for support to enhance farmer-led climate change intervention processes at the national and regional level. This collective statement includes key messages from farmer organisation, as well as contributions from the EAFF Secretariat in support of their members.

EAFF intends to develop itself as the ‘go-to’ farmer organisation on these issues and it plans to extend its reach to other farmer organizations on the continent to ensure all farmers are included meaningfully in national, regional and global policy discussions. EAFF will continue to pursue partnerships with like-minded institutions and projects and will place emphasis on attracting long-term financial resources to build its in-house capacity and expand its pipeline of climate mitigation and adaptation projects.
